Scrobbling is when Last.fm tracks the music you listen to and automatically adds it to your music profile. You'll need to disable 'The Human Web' functionality entirely. Note that whitelisting RYM will not stop Ghostery; you must disable the 'Human Web' feature entirely. The very good sounding audience recording is used for the mc (no “Take The A Train” in this show) and the first ninety seconds of “Under My Thumb” and for the big gap in the middle. The sonic difference doesn’t detract from the enjoyment of the show, however, and the manufacturers did a phenomenal job with the seamless edits.
It’s a treat to hear the band jamming with the blues legend. The interplay between Muddy and Mick and Keith is pure magic! The only problem here is that only about half of the set is included.

Why the entire set wasn’t included is a mystery and the only negative against this title. This oversight aside Sweet Home Chicago 1981 is definitely worth having. The first two discs on this new release from Dog N Cat covers the November 24th Chicago gig at the Rosemont Horizon. Vinyl Gang released an audience recording of this same gig earlier in the year on In The Windy City (VGP-371) coupled with the Atlanta Fox Theater show on the same tour. Sweet Home Chicago 1981 utilizes the newly released excellent soundboard. But the most interesting aspect of this show occurs in “Miss You.” In place of the saxophone solo, bluesman Sugar Blue plays the harmonica.

He is the musician who recorded the harmonica solo on the studio recording and this is a very rare occurrence. It sounds as if he crashes the stage since Watts starts the sax solo but is abruptly stopped. This release has been blocked from sale in the marketplace. It is not permitted to sell this item on Discogs. Bluesman Sugar Blue crashes the proceedings and reprises his harmonica in “Miss You” to the delight of the band. And this is one show where the horn section is really enjoyable, especially in “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”.

It is clear but rather dry with the audience cheering pushed way back in the mix. And like other Still Life soundboards the guitars sound quiet thing.
Sweet Home Chicago is packaged in a double slimline. Empress Valley utilize photos and graphics from the Still Life tour common to all their releases from this era. The DAC is very good but is a three disc set with an incomplete copy of the Muddy Waters set from the Checkerboard Lounge. EV provides the only two disc set in an affordable edition and is worth having. On the Still Life tour in 1981 The Rolling Stones spent “two weeks” in Chicago according to a statement Mick Jagger makes. Three shows followed at the 18,500 capacity Rosemont Horizon on November 23rd, 24th, and 25th.

The concert itself is very spirited and perhaps one of the best from this tour. Spending several days in Chicago seems to have fired up the band. The opening numbers are delivered at a frightening pace and it never lets up. One can hear on the audience recording at the beginning the excitement generated first when the band start “Under My Thumb” and secondly when Mick Jagger runs onto the stage. The third disc of this set contains the soundboard of the often-released November 22nd Checkerboard Lounge set with Muddy Waters.
